David Fahy Artist’s Statement:
Thank-you for attending “In sunshine or in shadow”, my first solo exhibition in five years.
The exhibition has its roots with the Covid pandemic. Being unable to travel (but still wanting to paint), I travelled no further than the garden. The days were long and hot, ideal conditions really.
I was the type of person who did some plain air painting…but not a lot. This lockdown period changed me. I became freer with the paint, my marks were becoming loose and bold, colours became more vibrant…now, most of my works are plain air.
As time moved on and travel became easier, I returned to one of my favourite places, The Glebe House and Gallery, home of Derek Hill. This is such an inspirational place nestled close to Glenveagh and the Derryveagh Mountains. These 25 acres offer just about everything, tranquility, ever changing challenging views, inspirational artists and the motivation for many of these works. My thanks must go to the staff who make me feel very welcome.
Finally, I would like to thank my friends at The Foyle Hillwalking Club. With these very skilled hikers, I have been taken to very many remote beautiful places, many of these wild and rugged places have been committed to canvas.
